Getting Started with Kadoe Client

This FAQ is intended for users getting started with Kadoe Client

To install the software, you need the Kadoe Client installer package for Windows. You can download the installer package using your web browser. To use the software, you also need your Party ID and Party Password. When you purchase your Kadoe Client licence, we will email these details to you.

If you are going for a multi-machine installation, then the first computer that Kadoe Client is installed on will be designated as your local server.  All communications are routed through the local server, and all other installations share its database.

Therefore it is important that the local server computer is “visible” to all the other computers on your network, and that is always on during working hours.  You are recommended to choose a server computer on your local network.

You should install the software, and complete the one-off setup journey, on this server computer first.  Once that’s done, you can proceed to install the software on the other machines.

Yes.  It is likely that you will need Windows Administrator privileges in order to install the software.  If you don't have these privileges, you should contact a system administrator at your site.

Once Kadoe Client is installed on a machine, you should determine whether any non-Administrator users will be using it.  If they will, then you need to ensure that folder permissions are correctly set.

These fields are pre-populated based on your Windows setup.  It’s ok just to use the pre-populated values.  You may install this application for “Anyone who uses this computer”, as access to Kadoe Client is password-protected.

You are advised to accept the default install folder (usually C:\KADOE). You may choose a different folder if you prefer, but you are advised not to install to the Program Files folder.  This is because certain versions of Windows cache the Program Files folder in memory.  This can cause files of enquiry data to be imported more than once, incurring unwanted duplication and cost.

You need to complete a one-off setup journey.  Launch Kadoe Client from its desktop icon or via the Start menu. You will be taken step-by-step through a “wizard”-type journey.

Choose the Yes option, unless you are upgrading from Kadoe Client’s predecessor software, VKI.

Choose Yes, unless you are performing a multi-machine install and have already completed the setup journey on your local server computer.

When you purchased your Kadoe Client licence, we emailed these details to your nominated email address. If you do not have them to hand, please contact us.

Input your Party ID and Party Password and click Next. Kadoe Client will authenticate over the internet and download your Enquirer details.

Please double-check what you entered against the details we provided.

If you are certain you entered these details correctly, please contact us.

It’s probably a firewall issue.  Please ask your network or system administrator to permit secure HTTPS traffic to and from the domain.  If you are certain that your firewall settings permit this traffic, please contact us.

Depending on your organisation's contract with the DVLA, you will download details for one, or more than one, Enquirer.

  • Each Enquirer has a unique Enquirer Id in the format AA999 (two letters followed by three digits).
  • Each Enquirer has at least one Reason for Enquiry such as "Mileage check - Motor Trader", which is mapped to an Enquiry Code in the format 99AA (two digits, both usually zero, followed by two letters)
  • If you have more than one Enquirer, then all Enquirers will have a common Intermediary Id in the format A99 (one letter followed by two digits)

Every enquiry you make to the DVLA will carry an Enquirer Id and an Enquiry Code, and if necessary, the Intermediary Id as well.

When you input enquiries by hand, you must choose the appropriate Enquirer Id (unless you only have a single Enquirer) and Enquiry Code (unless your Enquirer only has a single Reason for Enquiry).  Kadoe Client will populate the Intermediary Id automatically for you.

When you import enquiries from file, each enquiry row in the file should specify an Enquirer Id and Enquiry Code (and if necessary the Intermediary Id).  If these are not specified, Kadoe Client will populate them automatically, based on the Enquirer you are importing the file for, and that Enquirer's default Reason for Enquiry.

Enquirer details are provided to us by the DVLA.  If the details seem incorrect, please contact us.

During setup, Kadoe Client will invite you to choose Import and Export folders for each of your Enquirers.  Each Enquirer must have an Import and an Export folder.

You are strongly advised to use new, unique Import and Export folders for each of your Enquirers.

1. In Windows Explorer, create new Import and Export folders for each of your Enquirers

2. In Kadoe Client, select a particular Enquirer

5. Do the same for each Enquirer, if you have more than one.

6. Finally, click Next to proceed.  If you get a message saying “Import folder for Enquirer cannot be blank”, make sure you have chosen folders for all of your Enquirers by selecting each one in turn from the dropdown list.

Not necessarily.  An Administrator user is created automatically for you, so you can start using Kadoe Client immediately.

  • If you are upgrading from VKI, its Username is set to your old Party Code, and your VKI Password is retained.
  • If you are using our software for the first time, itsUsername and Password are both set to 'Admin' by default.

You can change these details if you wish by highlighting the Administrator user and clicking Edit User.

However, the Administrator can always add or edit user details later.

Choose Standalone if this will be the only installation of Kadoe Client on your network. Choose Server if you intend to install Kadoe Client on other machines after this one.

Once the initial setup is done, the next thing to do is test that Kadoe Client can integrate with your back-office systems. To facilitate this integration testing, Kadoe Client is supplied to run in a test mode. Please follow the steps in the integration testing FAQ.
